The sound of the city

Boston has a long folk and rock tradition and some of the country's most active college radio. Towards New York, Connecticut radio online covers the state; up north, Vermont radio online and Maine radio online cover northern New England. Folk radio and classical radio go further.

A little history

WBUR, founded at Boston University in 1950, produces national programmes including On Point and Here & Now. Boston's college stations have long been a proving ground for new music, and WUMB has made folk its speciality.

Listening from elsewhere

Boston keeps Eastern time — five hours behind UTC in winter and four in summer.

A route in

1. WBUR, for public radio.
2. WCRB, for classical music.
3. WUMB, for folk.
4. WMBR, for MIT's student radio.

For the rest of the Northeast, New York radio online is close by.
