The sound of the city

Flying Nun Records, the indie label behind the Dunedin sound, was founded in Christchurch in 1981, and the city also gave New Zealand the Dance Exponents, The Bats and Shapeshifter. New Zealand radio, indie radio and community and college radio go further.

Listening from elsewhere

Christchurch keeps New Zealand time — twelve hours ahead of UTC in winter and thirteen in summer.
