The sound of the region

Montreux, on the Vaud shore of Lake Geneva, has hosted the Montreux Jazz Festival since 1967, and the 1971 fire at the town's casino inspired Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water". Geneva is home to the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, founded by Ernest Ansermet in 1918. Swiss radio, French radio and jazz radio go further.

Listening from elsewhere

Geneva keeps Swiss time — one hour ahead of UTC in winter and two in summer.
