How to Listen to Hungarian Radio Online

You can stream Hungarian radio live in any browser, with no download and no account: open 72FM's Hungary page, choose a station and press play. Hungary's dial is small but surprisingly well known online: some of the most-voted dance stations in the whole directory come from Budapest, alongside the public broadcaster's classic channels and an independent scene with a story of its own.

Public radio

Hungarian public radio's three classic channels are all in the directory:

• Kossuth Rádió — news, current affairs and speech, the national station.
• Petőfi Rádió — pop and contemporary music.
• Bartók Rádió — classical music and culture, streaming at 320kbps.

Inforádió, a commercial news station, is also in the directory.

Dance and hits

• Dance Wave! and Dance Wave Retro! — club, house, trance and retro dance hits, among the most-voted stations in the entire directory, not just in Hungary.
• MegaDance Rádió — more dance music.
• Rádió 1 — Budapest's hits station.
• Retro Rádió and Sláger FM — oldies and classic hits.
• Oxygen — themed streams including 80s hits and Hungarian music, at 320kbps.
• Best FM, Laza Rádió and Poptarisznya — pop and easy listening.

Independent radio

• Tilos Rádió — Budapest's community station, run by volunteers, known for its eclectic and alternative programming.
• Klubrádió — an independent talk station. In February 2021 it lost its FM licence after the media regulator declined to renew it, and it has broadcast online since.
• Mercy Rádió — Kabaré — comedy and cabaret.

The sounds that come from here

Hungarian pop and rock. From the beat bands of the 1960s and 70s to today's pop, Hungarian-language music has its own stations, and Oxygen's Hungarian channel plays nothing else.

Classical. Hungary gave the world Liszt, Bartók and Kodály, and Bartók Rádió keeps the tradition on the air.

Folk. Hungarian folk music, and the dance-house revival it inspired, has its own programmes on the public stations.

Dance. Budapest's dance stations are a scene in themselves, with listeners far beyond Hungary.

Listening from abroad

Hungarians abroad — in Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, the United States and the neighbouring countries with large Hungarian minorities — use online radio to keep up with home. Hungary keeps Central European time, one hour ahead of UTC in winter and two in summer. Expat radio covers the habit.
