A little history
Oktoberfest began in 1810 with the wedding celebrations of Bavaria's Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese, on the meadow that still bears her name — the Theresienwiese, or simply the Wiesn. It now runs for about two weeks, ending in early October, and inside the tents the brass bands play Bavarian marches, the drinking song "Ein Prosit" again and again, and the party schlager everyone sings along to. Schlager radio, polka radio and Munich radio go further.
