How to Listen to Paraguayan Radio Online

You can stream Paraguayan radio live in any browser, with no download and no account: open 72FM's Paraguay page, choose a station and press play. Paraguay is one of the few countries where an indigenous language is spoken by most of the population — Guaraní, alongside Spanish — and you can hear both on the radio, often in the same sentence.

Public radio

Radio Nacional del Paraguay was founded in 1942 and broadcasts from Asunción on 920 AM and 95.1 FM, with separate programmes on each. It broadcasts in Spanish and in Guaraní, with news, culture and Paraguayan music.

The most-voted Paraguayan station in the directory is Radio Vallenatos Clásicos, streaming Colombian vallenato at 320kbps — a sign of how popular that sound is across the region.

Guaraní

Guaraní is an official language of Paraguay, and most Paraguayans speak it; many mix it with Spanish in everyday speech in a way known as jopara. On the radio you will hear it in news, phone-ins, jokes and above all in song. For anyone learning the language, Radio Nacional's Guaraní programming is a good way to hear it spoken every day.

The sounds that come from here

Polka paraguaya. Not the European dance, despite the name: a fast, lilting style in which the Paraguayan harp leads, and the sound most people mean by Paraguayan music.

Guarania. A slower, more melancholy form created by the composer José Asunción Flores in 1925, to express the character of the Paraguayan people.

The harp. The arpa paraguaya is the national instrument, and it is at the centre of both styles.

Cumbia and urbano. On the FM dial, cumbia, reggaeton and Latin pop are what most people hear day to day.

Listening from abroad

Many Paraguayans live in Argentina, Spain and the United States. Since October 2024, Paraguay has kept UTC−3 all year, having abolished its clock changes — the same as Buenos Aires and Montevideo. Expat radio covers listening to home from far away.

Sound quality
