The sounds that come from here

Música llanera. The music of the llanos, the great plains, played on the harp, the four-string cuatro and maracas, is Venezuela's national sound — the joropo is the national dance. Stations such as Llaneros por Venezuela and Lo Mejor de Mi Llano play nothing else.

Salsa. Caracas is one of the great salsa cities, and Oscar D'León one of its great voices. Online streams play both salsa romántica and salsa brava.

Gaita and Christmas. The gaita zuliana from Maracaibo is the sound of a Venezuelan Christmas, starting weeks before December. Navidad Venezuela streams Christmas music, gaitas included; for festive radio from other countries, see Christmas and holiday radio.

Vallenato. Colombian vallenato has a big Venezuelan audience too — Fiesta Vallenata and Clásicos del Vallenato stream it all day.

Christian radio. Radio Cristiana Venezuela plays gospel and Christian programming.

Baseball season

Football is popular, but baseball is Venezuela's great passion. The winter league — with rivals such as Leones del Caracas and Navegantes del Magallanes — runs from autumn into the new year, and radio commentary is how many fans follow it. Whether a particular game streams outside the country is the broadcaster's rights decision.

Listening from abroad

In the last decade millions of Venezuelans have left the country, for Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Spain, the United States and beyond. For many of them, radio from home — the news from Caracas, the station a parent always had on, a gaita in December — is a daily connection with the country they left. Sound quality

Many Venezuelan streams in the directory do not report a bitrate, and those that do range from 48kbps to 128kbps, with RocaFM Clásicos Caracas at 320kbps.
