The sound of the city
Amsterdam is one of the capitals of dance music, and every October the Amsterdam Dance Event fills the city with DJs and producers. House music radio and electronic radio go further.
A little history
Hilversum has been the Netherlands' radio town since the 1920s. In the 1960s the pirate station Radio Veronica broadcast pop from a ship off the Dutch coast, and Radio 538 was founded in 1992 by the DJ Lex Harding.
Listening from elsewhere
Amsterdam keeps Central European Time — one hour ahead of UTC in winter and two in summer — so its morning shows go out overnight in the Americas.
