The sound of the region
The trikitixa, a diatonic accordion, and the txalaparta, a wooden percussion instrument played by two people, are traditional Basque instruments. San Sebastián is where singer-songwriter Mikel Laboa was born and where the pop band La Oreja de Van Gogh formed, while Kortatu, from Irun, were part of the 1980s rock radical vasco scene. Spanish radio, Catalan radio and minority-language radio go further.
