The sound of the region

The gaita, the Galician bagpipe, is at the heart of the region's folk music, carried around the world by Vigo-born piper Carlos Núñez and the band Milladoiro. Public broadcaster CRTVG is based in Santiago de Compostela, and Vigo's 1980s movida produced bands such as Siniestro Total. Spanish radio, Celtic radio and minority-language radio go further.

Listening from elsewhere

Galicia keeps Spanish mainland time — one hour ahead of UTC in winter and two in summer.
