The sound of Malawi

The mbira — sansi in Malawi — was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage in 2020, shared with Zimbabwe. Lucius Banda's reggae and Malawian gospel are everywhere on the air, and the Lake of Stars festival brings musicians to the shore of Lake Malawi. Chichewa and English are the languages of the air. Zambian radio, Zimbabwean radio and gospel radio go further.

Listening from abroad

Malawi keeps Central Africa Time, two hours ahead of UTC all year round.
