You can listen to MPB radio online in any browser, with no download and no account: open 72FM, search for "MPB", and press play. Música popular brasileira — the songs of Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Elis Regina and Milton Nascimento — has a network of FM stations in Brazil that play nothing else, and internet stations that go deep into it.

MPB online

• Bossa Jazz Brasil — bossa nova, jazz and MPB, the most-voted MPB station in the directory.

The sound

MPB took shape in the mid-1960s, after bossa nova, in the televised song festivals that launched Elis Regina, Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso. Tropicália in 1968 threw rock, psychedelia and the avant-garde into it, and through the years of military rule its lyrics said what could not be said outright. Brazilian radio, bossa nova radio and sertanejo radio go further.
