Rome is the home of RAI, Italy's public broadcaster, and its dial has national public radio, a station that broadcasts parliament, and a remarkable amount of football talk.

The sound of the city

Football talk runs all day on Rome's local stations, where the city's two clubs are debated from morning to night. To the north, Florence radio online covers Tuscany. Italian radio online and sports radio go further.

A little history

Italian public radio began in 1924 and took the name RAI in 1944. Rome has also been home to Vatican Radio since 1931, when Guglielmo Marconi built its first transmitter.

Listening from elsewhere

Rome keeps Central European Time — one hour ahead of UTC in winter and two in summer — so its morning shows go out overnight in the Americas.
