Rust boombox radio stations

A Rust server's owner can add real radio stations to every boombox on the server with one console line, BoomBox.ServerUrlList. Pick the stations, from your country or anywhere, and copy the line ready to paste. Only MP3 stations are offered, from the 30,000+ in the open Radio Browser directory. It is free and needs no account.

How to add the stations to your server

  1. Keep the list short. Facepunch says the line can only be so long, without giving a number, and long addresses fill it fast. A handful of stations is safer than twenty; the page shows how long your line is.
  2. Paste it into the server console. As the server's owner, paste the line into your server's console (your host's web console or RCON) and press Enter.
  3. Save it. Type writecfg and press Enter, so the list is still there after a restart. You can also put the same line in your server.cfg.
  4. Tune in. Your stations appear in the boombox's station list for everyone on the server, next to Rust's own. If the last stations are missing, the line was too long: take a few out.

What the line looks like

A BoomBox.ServerUrlList line with three stations: each station's name, then its stream address, all separated by commas inside one pair of quotes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a custom radio station to a Rust boombox?

Only the server's owner can. Run BoomBox.ServerUrlList "Station name, stream address" in the server console, with more stations added the same way: name, address, name, address, all separated by commas inside one pair of quotes. This page writes that line for you from the stations you pick.

Can players add their own stations?

No. Facepunch's wiki says only server owners can add stations; players choose from the server's list.

How many stations can I add?

Facepunch does not give a number, only that the final line can only be so big and that long addresses use it up quickly. Start with a few stations, check that they all show in the game, then add more.

Which stream addresses work?

A direct link to the station's audio, not its website. This page offers MP3 stations only, the kind of link Facepunch's own example points to, and leaves out addresses with a comma in them, which would break the list.

Can I remove Rust's default stations?

No. The default stations come from the game itself and stay in the list; your stations are added to them.

Is it safe to add stations?

Rust connects straight to each station's address, so the station's server can see the IP addresses of players near a playing boombox. Add only stations you trust. Facepunch also suggests that streamers turn Internet Audio Streams off in the game's options to avoid copyright claims.

Is it free, and is 72FM part of Facepunch?

It is free and needs no account. 72FM is not connected with Facepunch Studios, the maker of Rust. The stations belong to their broadcasters, and the addresses are the ones the open Radio Browser directory lists for them.

Want a station's address for something else? The stream URL finder gives it for any station. Radio for other games: ETS2 and ATS · Farming Simulator. Rust is a game by Facepunch Studios; 72FM is not connected with them.
